From Hiroshima to Fukushima to Livermore:
Confronting the Two-Headed Dragon of Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Power
WHAT/WHO: Major protest rally to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan featuring Dr. Arjun Makhijani (nuclear scientist and author), Emma’s Revolution (award winning musical duo) plus other great artists and speakers. The event will include a live video link between Livermore and Hiroshima with atomic bomb survivor, Mr. Keijiro Matsushima.
WHERE: Lawrence Livermore Nuclear Weapons Laboratory, one of the two facilities where every nuclear weapon in the U. S. arsenal is developed. The rally will begin at William Payne Park, across the street from the Livermore Lab at the corner of Vasco and Patterson Pass Roads. Near the conclusion of the rally, there will be a procession to Livermore Lab.
WHEN: 6 PM to 9 PM, Saturday, August 6, 2011.
WHY: August 6 and 9 will mark the 66th anniversaries of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This year, commemorative activities will illuminate the connections between nuclear weapons and nuclear power. In the wake of the catastrophic events still unfolding in Fukushima, it’s time to expose the “two headed dragon” of nuclear technology and call for a nuclear free future for all humankind.
This commemoration is organized by a coalition of Livermore and Bay Area-based groupsas part of national “Nuclear Free Future Month.
